Traffic measurements

The basis of efficient traffic planning and modelling is the precise and detailed measuring of traffic flows. It means that, we’re not only measuring traffic volumes, but other parameters which are necessary for model calibration and traffic signal planning, such as length of queues, vehicle travel times and separation of vehicle categories and time intervals.

To fulfil these principles, we use the following traffic measurement techniques:

  • Conventional cross-section and intersection counts.
  • Examining rates of separate vehicle categories.
  • Analysing traffic flows using time intervals.
  • OD relations using license plate registration.
  • Analysing roundabout traffic flows with camera recordings.
  • Measuring queue lengths with GPS devices.
  • Examining data from counting detectors.
  • Counting public transport passengers.
  • Measuring parking traffic.
  • Projection of traffic flows.
  • Documenting the measured data
  • Creating intersection flow diagrams.
